Friday Fall Favorites

Apple Cider with Essential Oils

I find that there is something comforting about warm drinks. Cups of hot flavored coffee and rich, creamy chocolate cocoa are two of my favorites. Hot cups of apple cider can also be just what the doctor ordered on a crisp fall day or a wintry afternoon. I recently discovered that I could make apple cider with essential oils and have added it to my list of favorites.

With a cold front moving in that brought much cooler weather to my area, it was a perfect time for a restful afternoon and some delicious apple cider.  I found that a steaming cup of apple cider all curled up with a good book had self-care and my name written all over it. Sometimes little things are the big things and can make all the difference when you feel the need to unwind.

So yes, I made “myself” a big pot of this yummy goodness.  I would have shared (maybe) with my hubby, but he is more of the coffee drinker type than apple cider. So this meant more for me. Yeah!!!

I’ve tried different recipes but recently discovered you can add essential oils to spice up store-bought apple cider. It means less work in less time. And if you have a busy schedule like me, you appreciate anything you can do in half the time.  I made this recipe to be enough for approximately two people, so double up to make more. This is what I used but experiment with the oils to make it your own.

Ingredients:

4 cups Apple Cider

One apple sliced

One orange sliced

1/2 lemon sliced

Two cinnamon sticks

Two drops of orange essential oil

One drop of lemon essential oil

Two drops of clove essential oil

One drop of nutmeg essential oil

Two drops of cinnamon bark essential oil

Pour apple cider into a slow cooker. Then add all other ingredients. Cook on slow for 2 hours or until piping hot and then set to warm. You are all set for a restful afternoon with a divine aroma drifting through your home as an added bonus.

And that’s it except for one more thing.

Don’t forget to enjoy every drop.
