Coffee and a Verse

He Finds Us Even in Car Lines

An unexpected wait at the drive-thru at my bank worked to be in my favor. It allowed me to take a much-needed time out to talk to God about something that had started to weigh me down in spirit. It also taught me the lesson that He never loses sight of us.  He finds us even waiting in car lines.

A morning that was heated and rushed had left my heart in tatters.  It left me reeling from coming up short in something I had been so working on.  As hard as I had tried, I had failed. Again.

I looked around at all the dead brush left from a hot Summer with very little rain and a vine left to wild abandon creep up the nearby deserted stairwell. It made me realize that the scene in front of me was a snapshot of how I felt lately, like a lot of lifeless places with problems creeping in trying to take over my peace and contentment.

As my heart reached out to my heavenly Father with questions, amazingly in a car line, He began to give me some much-needed answers.

For amid all the dead places my eyes saw, God pointed them to something else.  Almost hidden in the brambles and distorted limbs and debris was a tiny morning glory alive and blooming.  The flower’s dainty face the creation of an intentional Father to share with his daughter on a morning she needed to be reminded of His sweet love for her. A love that knows no bounds and doesn’t run out in a moment of my weakness. So much life was in full view even amid dead weeds and decay.

God is intentional to show His great love for us.

So much hope amid hopelessness.  A reminder of the verse Psalms 30:5 (NIV), “For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime; weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning.” It also was a reminder that His mercies are renewed every morning. Perfect timing on a morning that when I fall short that He never does. Oh, How Great is the faithfulness of our God even when we are not.

As I started to pull up in the car line, two tiny sparrows awakened my ears with a song as they flew above the morning glories. Another reminder is that He gives me a song even when the desire to sing would escape me. He makes my heart always rejoice because He is forever doing something new in my life. He is always bringing renewal and refreshing even when I would so easily sit down in despair.

We serve a God that never changes.  He is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

Our shortcomings and even our outright failures never change Him. His character remains the same, like a rock embedded in the side of a mountain. Sure and immovable. Even in thunderstorms and fierce wind, He remains.

He can never be driven away by our recklessness or change His mind about us when we are less than lovely. When we as daughters come to Him with messy buns and running mascara faces, he welcomes us with open arms and holds us till our tears stop falling.

We will always have trouble in this world, but we find a constant source of peace and comfort in Jesus. A sure place to stand and a sure place to fall.

He waits for us on busy mornings and goes with us to the ends of the world. And reminds us that He never loses sight of us.  He finds us from the middle of mundane and ordinary days when we are flying high above the clouds and even in car lines.
