Daughter of God, You are Enough
I can get easily get caught up in appearances. Anybody?
Do you ever feel the sting of the words “you aren’t good enough?” Do you feel your accomplishments pale in comparison to “her” success, remarkable beauty, or invaluable contributions? Perhaps, you don’t even try because you feel you couldn’t possibly make any difference at all.
I have spent some time visiting with John the Baptist. He reminded me of a few important things…
Ladies, It isn’t about our hairstyle. And it certainly isn’t about the current style of shoes we are wearing. Our standing in society is not what will make the difference. What diploma hangs on our wall or what house we own or what car we drive won’t end up being what is most important.
It makes no difference if we are young or old.
It doesn’t matter who our parents were or who we are sitting by in the front row at church either.
And Praise God it won’t even matter what mistakes we made in our past before we met Jesus!
What matters is the position of our hearts today.
All it takes is an obedient heart and a readiness to share the good news of Jesus.
We just have to show up. God will do the rest and give the increase as it pleases Him, and He gives us an example in scripture.
John the Baptist (John 1:6-26) simply answered the call on his life to usher in the Messiah. He didn’t get caught up in the religious politics of the Sadducees and Pharisees of the day. Nor did he get caught up in counting the people at his speaking events or the number of his followers. IG feeds or FB post reach didn’t matter at all in completing his kingdom assignment.
He didn’t look left or right and he most certainly demonstrated Galatians 1:10 by how he lived. “Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings or God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.” It was obvious by the life of John that he cared more about the things of God than anything else.
God blesses us with many things to enjoy. He blesses us with accomplishments and successes. But at the end of the day, it isn’t going to matter what we look like by the world’s standards. It won’t matter that people see “us” at all.
What will count the most in our lives will not be how we directed others to behold ourselves.
What will count the most is how we directed others to behold Jesus.
And in the words of my Pastor, “When I have done all I can do to proclaim the gospel, Lord, help me run to hide behind the cross. I don’t want people to see me but see Jesus.”
John the Baptist wore a camel-hair garment with a leather belt around his waist and ate locusts and wild honey. (Matthew 3:4) I am sure John looked less impressive surrounded by the flowing robes of the Christian elite of the day. I’m sure they dined on finer delicacies and wine at their table than bugs and honey.
But John was on an important mission. He had no time to entangle himself with things that were not important. He was the forerunner of none other than the King of Kings and he was on a mission. He had been hand appointed to usher in the message of the Messiah. And he did it by not being like “them” but being himself. The spotlight was meant for Jesus and he put the spotlight on a high beam. And the people came in groves. They were drawn to the flame that he ignited.
The whole Judean countryside and all the people of Jerusalem were going out to hear his strange-looking man with life-changing words. They were also baptized by him in the Jordan River and confessed their sins. His platform had blown up and his message had gone viral. And he did it all in an ordinary camel-hair garment. Ladies, there would be no mention of heels and matching bags.
Sometimes I need to be reminded that I don’t have to wear the best and own the finest to be used by God. I also have to remind myself from time to time that God didn’t call me to be “her” but to be me.
Maybe you needed to be reminded too.
Don’t think about what you are not today but all You are in Jesus.
God is making you more like Jesus and that is something to be proud of for nothing is more beautiful than a Daughter of God that has given Him her heart.
For God clothes His daughters with strength and dignity. (Proverbs 31:25) He gives her a change of clothes (Ephesians 4:20-24) for she no longer wears garments of guilt and shame. And He gives her shoes for the journey (Ephesians 6:15) in which she will spread the gospel and walk through fire and flood. She does not need to fear for the future for she will laugh in days to come. God has prepared her for whatever happens in her life and it will be well with her soul.
Daughter of God, hold your head high today. You are worthy, loved, blessed, and highly favored by God. You ARE enough!
See you in the field,

“But that is not the way you learned Christ! assuming that you have heard about him and were taught in him, as the truth is in Jesus, to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.” Ephesians 4:20-24 (ESV)
“She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.” Proverbs 31:25 (NIV)
“For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared.” Ephesians 6:15 (NLT)

Your line about IG feeds and FB post reach not mattering in whether or not Jesus could complete his assignment really struck me. Also, love your font colour! What a pleasure to read!

It forever amazes me that we serve a God who really didn’t need us to accomplish His purpose, but He chose us anyway. We just have to bring our obedience, He will do the rest and that was His plan all along. And as writers that means IG and FB included. 🙌
Thank you for reading and commenting.

Thank you for this beautiful picture of what really matters to God! It is so easy to get caught up in wanting to have the “right” look and project the “right” image. thank you for the reminder that I need only to be who God has made me to be, and that is more than enough.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. It is great to have all the things, but I remind myself I don’t need them to be obedient and have an impact. I just have to show up. He is and should always be “the Main Event” not me.
