Coffee and a Verse
Life is full of things I have to do everyday. So I always try to make time for the things I enjoy and actually look forward to each day too. So I tend to start my mornings enjoying two of my favorite things. Enjoying time in the Word of God and sipping on a fresh cup of my favorite coffee. This is where the Coffee and a Verse came from. So grab your own cup of coffee and join me as I share one of my favorite verses for the week. Verses that have encouraged me and my hope is that they will encourage you too.

Old Glasses and New Perspectives
It was just a simple pair of reading glasses, but I lost count of the many prayers I prayed over something so small and superficial. Days and weeks of prayers amid all the searching. Even a few prayers lingered a year later. I will be honest that there has been a thought tucked away in the back of my mind since I misplaced them. I even asked out loud a few times, “Why Lord, did you not help me find them?” I admit, others times, I pleaded, “Lord do you hear me when I pray?” I had a newer pair, almost like them, but I liked the old worn…

Purpose-Full Lessons
Purpose. I spent a lot of time on that word last year. It was the precious word God gave me to focus on at the beginning of 2021. At the beginning of the year, I had no idea what I would face and all the changes that would ensue before the year’s end. I also had no idea that all of it would make me question what my Purpose in kingdom work veritably was. By the time December had rolled around, I was war-torn from fighting against self-doubt and lack of confidence in the areas I had felt so strongly called to several years before. I had started to ask…

God’s Most Mysterious Gift
Key Verses: “In him, we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace that he lavished on us. With all wisdom and understanding, he made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ, to be put into effect when the times reach their fulfillment—to bring unity to all things in Heaven and on earth under Christ.” Ephesians 1: 7-10 (NIV) When I was a child, I loved to get Christmas gifts from my precious Grandmother. She would often wrap all kinds of trinkets in one large box, and it was often…

Finding What Truly Satisfies our Souls
Do you ever overeat to the point that you are miserable? Maybe it is that favorite meal that you can’t seem to stop eating, or maybe like me; you have this incredible sweet tooth that you can never seem to satisfy. Yet, we can glean a spiritual message from that all too familiar feeling of being too full even of a good thing. A lesson that will teach us to find ultimate contentment in Jesus. A lesson that will teach us that whatever we are full of in this life will ultimately determine our outcome. We can either seek to find contentment in Jesus or try to satisfy the innermost longings…

Trusting in Psalm 91
Key Verse: “He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.” (NKJV) I got the call that all moms dread they will get. “Mom, I tested positive for Covid. I am ok and have no symptoms, but…” My daughter spoke other words in the conversation, but my brain stopped processing after that. It took a few moments for me to catch up in the conversation because suddenly, everything was in slow motion. By the time news hit my…

He Finds Us Even in Car Lines
An unexpected wait at the drive-thru at my bank worked to be in my favor. It allowed me to take a much-needed time out to talk to God about something that had started to weigh me down in spirit. It also taught me the lesson that He never loses sight of us. He finds us even waiting in car lines. A morning that was heated and rushed had left my heart in tatters. It left me reeling from coming up short in something I had been so working on. As hard as I had tried, I had failed. Again. I looked around at all the dead brush left from…

Perhaps God Won’t but Perhaps God Will
Perhaps God won’t but perhaps, sweet friend, God will… When we were dating, my husband tried to win me a bear at the amusement park. I would hate to know how much money he wasted on all the games he lost. Nevertheless, he kept trying for a chance that “perhaps” he would get lucky and impress me with the stuffed bear I had my eye on. Over the years, I, too, have had my share of perhaps. Things I worked tirelessly on, just hoping to have favored results. Some things worked out, while others didn’t. Some came with regrets when they didn’t work out. Others I was relieved…

When Prayer Becomes a Struggle
Can I let you in on a little secret that the enemy doesn’t want you to find out? There will be days you won’t feel like praying. Days your heart will struggle to find the words. Other days you will struggle to know what to pray. Your mind will race to figure out the things you need to ask for, forgetting that The Lord already knows. There will be days you will battle the voice that will tell you it doesn’t do you any good to pray at all. Days when your life looks far from the way you had planned. It will make you question His plans as your…

How Big Assignments Can Leave You Feeling Small
I want this prominent place to serve God until I don’t. Sometimes you get called to the messy job you never asked for. Times when the job you got just feels incredibly too much for you to handle. Some days you want to trade your bigger-than-life assignment in for something a little less challenging or take back that prayer you prayed to get it. Other days if you are going honest, you just want to quit the job you got and don’t do any job at all. Anybody? I’ve spent some time lately trying to talk God into a different assignment. Days when this whole caregiver job makes me feel…

A Love Like No Other
From time to time, I come across old cards and letters. Some I find tucked away in a drawer. Others left within the pages of a favorite book after being used as a bookmark. Some from family and friends. Others from my husband. All are sweet reminders of the blessings that come from endearing relationships. Gifts from God that are tucked away within the pages of our lives. My daughter kept a simple note from her dad the day she started driving. It has become one of her most treasured keepsakes over the years. One of mine is a note my husband stuck in my suitcase the first time after…
