About Me

Hello, Friends!

I am glad you are here.

I guess introductions are in order so here goes…

I describe myself as an encourager and devotional writer. I picked up my pen in high school and have been writing ever since. I have journaled over the years to help process the hard seasons in my life.

During one of my most painful seasons, God called me to step out of my comfort zone to start writing publicly. I remember to this day trying to convince God that I wasn’t the girl for the job and that the task would be impossible during my then-painful circumstances.  God dropped these simple words into my spirit that I have never forgotten. He actually spoke to me quite audibly, “Paul wrote letters to the church when he was in prison.”  It shook me to the core, and I remember the words to this day. Needless to say, I picked up my pen and have been sharing my words for Jesus ever since.

I started writing devotions for my church not long after. Then during the Covid shutdown, I felt God call me to start this blog. In addition to writing on my website, you will also find me on Facebook and Instagram.

I  have also been a guest writer for other sites as well.  These include Calla Press, Rachel K.  Adams Love Offering Blog Series, Her View from Home,  and Titus Two. I  have been featured in the Proverbs 31 devotional books entitled Hope When Your Heart is Heavy and Clear Mind, Peaceful Heart.  I have also been a guest on Chats from the Blog Cabin hosted by Melissa Vera, the blogger behind the Adventures of Frugal Mom and also Mom’s Grab Coffee podcast.

As for more personal introductions, I reside in a small town in Virginia nestled in the Appalachian Mountains.  I love to spend time on my deck looking at the incredible view.  God couldn’t have planned a better place for me.  The things God has shown me and the things we have talked about watching out over those beautiful mountains.  They have helped ground my perspective when I feel overwhelmed by life.  They remind me that even though I am small, the great creator who is my God is huge  and is sovereign over it all.

I am married to my high school sweetheart, Jeff. We grew up attending the same church and later started dating.

Somehow, when I say I married my high school sweetheart, it implies we have had this whirlwind romance, and we just always knew we were meant for each other, but the truth is we have had our fair share of ups and downs. Some days, we get along great and honestly, other days, we disagree on just about everything. We just made a choice to hang on to each other no matter what, and that life was better together.

It is funny when I think back to when we were kids. I remember that I really didn’t like him that much because, for some crazy reason, he was always flipping me with rocks. Cupid definitely shot me with a love arrow when I wasn’t looking. One thing I can say for sure is that God has blessed us. Despite my husband’s long battle with Multiple Sclerosis, we are going 41 years strong.

I am blessed to be a wife and a mom to my beautiful daughter Heather and Gran Gran to my handsome grandson Noah. I am also blessed with a wonderful son-in-law, Derrick.  I am so thankful for my family. They keep me grounded and sane in this crazy, changing world I live in. The added bonus is that I really like my people. They really are special, caring people that I get to call mine. God is good.

I have always had a warm spot for dogs. Growing up I always wanted a house dog and my mom preferred to keep dogs outside. Once I lived out on my own, I have had a house dog ever since. We recently added a sweet Golden Doodle named Molly to our household. She has been a handful, but she showers us with so much love and makes us laugh.  She loves to climb up on your lap and “Molly bomb” you which is what we call all the love she pours out giving you hugs and kisses.

I love country roads, good fishing holes, old friends, long walks in the park, cups of flavored coffee, and all things chocolate.

I ask many questions about everything, especially the “why this” and “why that” ones, which you will discover if you read my blog posts. I think if you don’t ask, you won’t ever know. Plus, I think it pays to be honest, be yourself, and not live life like you already have all the answers and have it all together if you don’t.

I am a learn-as-you-go and push-through-your-mistakes kind of girl. Life gets hard sometimes, but you have to keep pushing through because God has made us a promise that it will get better. He has never failed me yet, and I honestly believe he never will.

Something else that I have learned is that my day goes so much better when I start my day with a cup of coffee and some quiet time with Jesus. My favorite place for quiet time is snuggled up inside or outside by a fireplace.

I am learning that if I want to feel encouraged, the best thing to do is reach out to encourage someone else.  And that is what I strive to do within the pages of my blog.  I do my best to encourage others by shining the light of Jesus and sharing the words of encouragement God shares with me.

Whenever you feel yourself growing tired and weary from the journey and could use a friend who understands to walk another mile or two down the road, I am your girl.

So pour yourself a cup of coffee and pull up a chair. Let’s be Ruth 2:16 Girls together.  And the road is much better when you have a friend with whto share the journey.

See you in the field,

Susan
